Dimenco and Cornes Technologies announce a distribution agreement

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

After a successful partnership that started at the beginning of this year, Cornes announced today an exclusive distribution agreement with Dimenco – the leader in interactive 3D light field display - for its Simulated Reality technology (SR) in Japan. Cornes Technologies will be the exclusive sales channel in Japan for its SR DevKit of which Dimenco has deployed numerous units in 2020

No wearables needed

Dimenco’s Simulated Reality technology (SR) lets the user interact with 3D objects in a virtual environment, without the need for any headwear or wearables. Mainly targeted at Japan’s world-famous visualization industry, SR technology is capable of displaying the critical details of any 3D content that is impossible to visualize with regular hi-def 2D screens; which is of substantial benefit, and a huge milestone.

The Extended Reality (XR) market in Japan is growing and closely watching the latest developments in display technology. Within all major industrial applications there is growing demand and it is estimated in 2026 these spatial visualization technologies will be widely adopted. Dimenco’s Partner Ultraleap has been benefiting from Cornes’ large network and excellent reputation, within the Japanese XR market, for more than a year.

Masaki Sakuraba, Director, Head of Business Operations said, “Dimenco is on the forefront of the interactive spatial display technology without the need for any wearables. Cornes is well placed to supply a wide variety of channel partners in Japan and we are very excited to offer Dimenco our expertise.”

This exclusive distribution deal for the Japanese market follows the announcement earlier this year when Dimenco introduced in collaboration with Microsoft and Ultraleap the world’s first interactive 8K 3D display at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Maarten Tobias, CEO of Dimenco said: “After receiving much positive interest in our technology from Japan, we are very pleased to be announcing our exclusive distribution partnership with Cornes, making it possible to introduce our Simulated Reality display technology to the Japanese market, something we where planning to do for quite some time. The incredible 8K SR Devkit has already been very well-received by our customers since it officially launched in November last year.”

About Cornes

Cornes was founded in Yokohama, Japan 1st April 1861 in the closing years of Japan's Edo period by Frederick Cornes and his partner, William Aspinall. Initially trading in silk and tea, the business quickly expanded to include the import of cotton, metals, consumer goods, coal and other raw materials. The company was also a pioneer in the Japanese insurance market starting with its appointment in 1868 as the first Lloyd's agent in Japan - a position that is still held today. With the development of its maritime and insurance operations, Cornes paved the way for new services-based industries in an age when business was still dominated by trade in material goods.

Today, the Cornes business encompasses a wide range of products and services including European luxury automobiles, marine charts and related publications, kitchenware, electronics and other high-tech products and equipment. Whatever the field of endeavour, Cornes strives unceasingly to deliver the highest level of quality and service to its customers and takes pride in being a bridge for ideas and innovation from the rest of the world to Japan.
