HOW DOES IT WORK? – AUTOSTEREOSCOPIC 3D

Lenticular based autostereoscopic technology is based on lens technology which zooms in on different groups of pixels when looking from different viewpoints. Thus each eye sees a different group of pixels. By rendering different images for different viewpoints depth perception is realized without the need of cumbersome glasses. Keeping the amount of viewpoints limited and repeating the sets of viewpoints ensures that resolution loss is limited together with a convincing and sharp 3D perception. Systems generating between 3 and 28 views have been developed.

Lenticular Based Autostereoscopic Technology

The following technologies are used by Dimenco to enable optimal autostereoscopic 3D:

Slanted smart sampling lenses technology:

By slanting the lenses and applying smart sampling, the resulting resolution loss caused by the lenticular is reduced significantly. The loss is distributed equally horizontally and vertically. Finally the amount of interference between lenses and pixel matrix is cancelled.

2D and 3D dual mode technology:

Of course all display applications require not only 3D, but also traditional 2D video. The 3D effect of the lens can be turned off in two ways: A soft-switch which renders the normal content simply in 2D on the display or via an advanced LC based lens which completely disables the lens and turns the monitor back in a traditional 2D display with full resolution.

Cone and Viewdistance configuration:

The lens technology aims the different viewpoints to a single optimal distance. However many applications come with many requirements and therefore he lenticular technology has been optimized for flexible configuration of the viewdistance and cone direction in real time.

Soft cone edges:

The set of viewpoints, the cone, repeats itself. This results in areas where an anti parallax is created and an uncomfortable viewing experience is realized. Via advanced lens and rendering techniques this cone transition can be hidden eliminating the uncomfort-zone. Read more about Dimenco’s rendering techniques…

Conclusion

In total the autostereoscopic 3D technology offered by Dimenco offers key advantages over competing technologies like barrier based or non-slanted lens lenticulars. Further more the Dimenco technology team has a worldwide network suppliers to realize the best and cost-effective supply chain to industrialize the technology.
