2D TO 3D CONVERSION

With the advent of the market of 3D displays, in the professional signage market with autostereoscopic displays and also the consumer market with goggles based stereo a large demand for 3D content arises. The first step towards 3D content is to convert 2D content to 3D. Conversion services are being offered in the market however pricing is extremely high, e.g. ranging from € 10k to € 100k per minute.

2D+Z FORMAT

Dimenco uses the 2D+Z format as output to generate a 3D effect without glasses. For each frame in a video we create a depth map. The 2D-plus-Depth (2D+Z) format stores a gray scale representation of an image side-by-side with the ‘real’ image. With the gray scale representation – the so-called depth map – a depth value is assigned to every pixel of the 2D content. Read more about 2D+Z.

Dimenco has access to state of the art technology licensed from Philips to convert content in a much more efficient way and can now provide professional 2D to 3D Content Conversion at an extremely competitive rate. The quality is almost equal to fully manual conversion. This conversion service is offered right now. The 3D content is delivered in the flexible 2D+Z format and can be converted to N-view or stereo for large or small screen.

Furthermore, Dimenco offers Stereo 3D to 2D+Z conversion, compatible with the Philips-branded 3D displays, or any other autostereoscopic display in combination with the upcoming Dimenco rendering box. As an extra service also offline 2D+Z to N view conversion is offered for all goggles based and autostereoscopic solutions in the market.

What are the procedures when converting content from 2D to 3D?

Please contact Dimenco via info@dimenco.eu. We will ask you to upload a sample of the content and do a quotation. When an order is placed we will provide an ftp account for uploading the clips in high bandwidth compression or preferably uncompressed format. After the conversion is done the result will be accessible via the same FTP. Optionally when converting to stereo or N-view new rendering can be done to increase or decrease the depth effect.
